Report on my apprenticeship experience at Messer

endersMy name is Eva Enders. I have been doing an apprenticeship as an industrial business management assistant at Messer Group GmbH for six months. After my “Abitur” (A-level equivalent exams) I applied to Provadis Partner für Bildung und Beratung GmbH. After successfully passing the preliminary rounds and interview at Provadis, my application documents were passed on to Messer. I was invited to an interview just a few days later.

The bright and modern building and the pleasant interview made it clear to me: I want to work here! Just a few days later I was told that I could sign the contract. During this second meeting, the structure of my apprenticeship was explained to me again in detail. I also received information about the further training opportunities during and after the apprenticeship.

My apprenticeship as an industrial business management assistant began in the Human Resources department. This is where everything in our company comes together and every apprentice gets to know the relationships in the company and the faces behind the names in the organisational chart. At Messer, I have met lots of nice colleagues who are always there to give me guidance and support.

I am learning the theoretical foundations for my apprenticeship at a vocational college, which is around ten kilometres from the Messer headquarters in Bad Soden. My classes are held several times a year, in blocks of several weeks at a time.

Whenever possible, I am allowed to take on tasks independently. I am also involved in team decisions and projects, even as an apprentice. In just my first months at Messer, during my placement in the Medical Gases department, I had the opportunity to get to know our Austrian subsidiary Messer Austria GmbH on a business trip.

External events, such as conferences and trade fairs, also help you to understand the issues in the company quickly because you learn about the market and its background. To gain a broad insight into all business processes, I am completing part of my apprenticeship in another company and partly at various Messer sites. There are even plans for a longer stay abroad next year.

During my time in the various departments and at other companies, I have come to the decision that I was right to choose Messer Group GmbH as the company for my apprenticeship. The positive first impression I got during the interview, which promised a friendly, modern and international family company, proved to be entirely true. In Messer I have found a company for my apprenticeship where I am supported and encouraged and at the same time am allowed to take on responsibility.

After my first six months I can say: I’m happy to be part of the Messer family!
